Assassins Creed Directors Cut PC Edition: Reviewed
Assassins Creed: Blood Guts, Action, Adventure, and Stealth too!
UBI Soft recently released Assassins Creed Director's cut edition for the PC. While wildly successful on console gaming systems, how good is the PC conversion? With this question in mind I've been stabbing people in the jugular for weeks to get you this review!

You are Altair an Arabic ninja who leaps from rooftop to rooftop like spider man.
A master assassin. Ruthlessly killing, maiming, and or eviscerating anyone who stands in your way. An unlikely hero, you are thrust between warring armies while trying to stop a sinister plot from unfolding.
Unfortunately the story is not well presented. The cut sequences occur too frequently and are of dubious quality. Games like those from the Final Fantasy series, make Creed's effort to weave a lasting web of wonder fail. Over 40 unavoidable interruptions are inflicted to push the story forward.
Combat while graphically impressive amounts to a button smashing contest. The artificial intelligence is poor. Making matters worse enemies are programmed to attack one at a time. Consequently although Altair can kill dozens at once, the experience seems more like dozens of 1 on 1 fights instead.
Action is kept lively by bloody finishing moves, with perfect timing you can practically feel the blood spray as it squirts across the screen! As for stealth. Why bother? It's just as efficient to mow down a hoard of enemies as it is to avoid them. Just choose what works for you and play!

The game flawlessly displays beautiful vistas and graphical depictions of violence.
However, it lacks depth. By the time the controller gets warm you will have experienced the entire game. Here is the basic formula:
-
Scale tall buildings to scout for missions.
-
Complete 3 mini missions to unlock the assassination mission.
-
Complete the assassination mission.
-
Cut scene, cut scene, cut scene, gain a bonus, training mission, interactive cut scene, ride a pony, start next mission, cut scene.
The first part of the formula is golden! It's the last bullet that ruins the fun!
Assassins Creed is about mayhem and the M rating is well deserved. Whats my favorite recipe for a die nasty sandwich you ask? Stabbing villains through the throat and smashing their faces into the ground of course! The simplistic violence is entertaining. But the lack of variety fails to keep it fresh!

Another important omission from the developer is an adjustable difficulty setting. After a few sessions the game ceases to offer any meaningful challenges. Mastery of a few combos is enough to beat the entire game. Hey Ubi Soft, how about more challenges next time and a shorter story?
On the bright side there is an option to replay previously completed missions. Plus you are free to troll for fights on horesback through the kingdom. These additions make it effortless to fire up a quick game in order to satisfy the mid day urge for blood lust.
Assassins Creed Overall
Is not a must have. But it's worth a few evenings of blood soaked carnage. If you have a top notch system and find a copy cheap go for it!
Final Rating 2 out of 5 ( Click to see how I chose this rating. )
